It's only been two weeks, but a lot has happened in those two weeks. I got to take Josh and take care of his traffic citation/car accident. Thankfully, they will let him take traffic school so the points from his ticket won't go on his record. However, there were a few steps involved to get to that point. We had to visit the court in Layton and then we were referred to the city attorney's office where they said if he admitted guilt and took a plea and abeyance that he could do traffic school. They were able to reduce his ticket fine by $20 for doing the plea and abeyance. So he (we) only have to pay $130 instead of $150 for his running a red light ticket and then another $50 for traffic school. DOH!! I am just glad that has been taken care of. In order to keep the points off his record he has to remain ticket and accident free for a year so we are hoping he will become a super cautious driver....keeping my fingers crossed!!
Aaron got the nice opportunity to speak in church last Sunday. He wasn't very excited to speak when he got the assignment, but he did a great job. His topic was on personal conversion. He was more excited after speaking because it meant he has a long time to wait before he is asked to speak again--at least he hopes so--haha!
The kids have been keeping busy so far this summer. Daniel finished his summer PE class two weeks ago. His last day they went to a local swimming pool and had a lot of fun. I made sure he brought the sunscreen this time, though!! Sarah and Noah finished their first round of summer school which they both really enjoyed. Sarah then started up a dance camp during the next week. While she wasn't at dance camp she has been playing with Sophie. The poor dog. Sarah turned her into a burrito dog. Sophie let her do it for a few minutes before she jumped out and ran away.
Sarah also had a visit with the ABCD (Adolescent Brain Cognitive Development) study down in Salt Lake. It is a 10 year nationwide study to follow the brain development and changes of adolescents through adulthood. This is Sarah's 2nd year in the study so we both got to go down and spend 2 hours answering wide variety of questions. It was the same questions we answered last year so it will be interesting to see how the answers change throughout the 10 years of the study.
Ever since Josh totaled his car Aaron and I have had to take him around to the different places he needs to go--mostly me. That was getting really old really fast so we decided we should start looking for another car for Josh to use. Luckily, I have a wheeler and dealer of a brother who knows the ins and outs of used car shopping. He was able to find us an awesome deal on a 2000 Nissan Maxima. It's not the nicest thing to look at, but it was CHEAP and can get Josh from point A to point B just fine which is what we wanted. We did tell Josh that if he does anything to this car that's it and he will need to figure out the bus schedule from then on. Hopefully that will motivate him to drive nice. Here's the car:
I think my kids were ready for me to be spelled off by Dad since I had exceeded my patience limit--haha! Aaron did have a pretty cool experience in the airport on his way home. While he was waiting to board his flight he got to chat it up with Kalani Sitake the head coach of BYU football. Aaron said he was a very nice guy and actually was very personable. He sounded more like a fan than a coach which impressed Aaron. Aaron was fanboying all the way home after talking with Kalani for 30 minutes before boarding the flight. Wahoo!
Last week Josh got the chance to attend AP (Aaronic Priesthood) camp. They were supposed to go to a camp up in the mountains, but it ended up still being snowed in so they moved the camp to keep it local. They did all the classes and meals at our church and sent the kids home in the evenings. It was scheduled from 7:30 am until 8:30 pm for three days. They combined it with the Laurel Legacy camp which was originally supposed to be held the second half of the week at the same snowed in campsite. Josh didn't mind having it combined with the girls, though--haha! They had a great experience and he learned a lot. He was pretty excited to attend this year and hopes that he will get one more chance to attend before he goes on his mission. They had classes and team building exercises as well as service opportunities. It sounded like it was a pretty cool experience.
Unfortunately, I had to take Josh back to the ophthalmologist. His left eye (the one that had the corneal ulcer at the beginning of the year) was really bothering him. He could only keep a contact in that eye for a few hours until it really started bothering him. I was worried it was related to the corneal ulcer so I wanted to get it checked out to make sure. Thankfully, it was not related to his corneal ulcer. However, the bad news is that it is related to allergies. His contact collects the allergens in the air and traps it against his eye which causes it to become inflamed. This means that he is in essence allergic to his contacts. Boo!! Both of his eyes were inflamed and the doctor was surprised his right eye wasn't giving him problems, too. The solution to this is to not wear contacts for at least 4 months while putting in steroid eye drops every day. This will allow his eyes to calm down and after 4 months of no contacts he will get checked out again by the ophthalmologist. If things look like they aren't inflamed he can try wearing a daily disposable contact to see if he can handle it. If his eyes become inflamed again he won't be able to wear contacts at all and will be stuck with just glasses. Josh isn't happy about that which I can't blame him. It was pretty crappy news.
I was so excited to receive 4 tickets. Matthew, Sarah, Noah and I got to go and it was a fun show.
Aaron was so excited last week. An older single guy at work upgraded his smoker and let Aaron take his old smoker. Aaron is so excited to have TWO smokers. He doesn't know what to make next, but I am sure he will come up with something!!
He did smoke some pastrami last week which is pretty tasty. He got a beef roast and cured it for a week in the fridge then smoked it. It turned out pretty tasty! Matthew has made pastrami sandwiches for his lunch all week long. Yum!!
We had to stop by Josh's work last week to drop something off for him. Aaron snapped a picture of Josh while he was at work because it is fun to see your kid actually working at a real job. I still see Josh as a cute 5 year old, but this reminds me that he is not 5 anymore, but old enough for a real job--DOH!!
Josh and Daniel have turned in their applications for CCYC for next year. I am hoping they are both able to make it in! It has been a great experience for Josh!
