Contacts, Eye Exams, Glasses, Tooth Fairy, Dance, Basketball, Safety First

This past week hasn't been too exciting, but that is just fine with me.  With the beginning of the new year that means our Flex Spending Account has been reset and ready to use.  Wahoo!  With Daniel's Oral Immunotherapy Treatment and other various health expenses of our family our FSA was depleted by June of last year so we are glad to have some money back in it now.  Josh has been waiting patiently to get contacts so we were finally able to make him an appointment for a contact fitting last week.  He was pretty excited.  However, learning how to put contacts in a take them out didn't come very easily for Josh.  To even get his contacts for the first time in at the office it took awhile with me and another person trying to help him out.  

I must agree that having something coming straight at your eye (finger with a contact on it) without blinking is a hard reflex to break.

Luckily, after a week of me helping him at home he finally got them in by himself for the first time a few days ago.  Wahoo!!

 He looks so different without his glasses, but he is enjoying his contacts. He loves that they don't fog up every time he goes outside which I can see that is a good thing!  It makes running for him a bit easier since he doesn't have to worry about his glasses.

As for Matthew it has been almost three years since his last eye exam.  Luckily, his prescription hasn't hardly changed so he was able to get some new glasses made.  They even were able to dilate his eyes this time and do the puff of air test without Matthew getting really upset.

We lucked out because Matthew broke his last pair of glasses Saturday morning and we didn't have a back up pair.  Luckily, his new glasses came in early so we were able to pick them up Monday night.  He looks pretty handsome:

The kids don't tell us when they have loose teeth anymore.  They don't like getting 'help' to get the teeth out so they keep quiet when they have a loose tooth.  So we were pretty surprised when Sarah came home from school with not just one, but TWO molars that had fallen out while she was at school.  They had been loose for awhile and finally were loose enough for her to get them out during school.  She was pretty proud of her molars in the baggie:

 Too bad it took the Tooth Fairy four days to finally get her act together and come to pick up the teeth--haha!

Speaking of Sarah she had two dance performances in the last week.  She loves getting dressed up for them.  She also likes getting to wear some make up, too.  It really amazes me how she looks so much older after she has make up on.  She is growing up:

Basketball is in full swing.  Daniel had his first game and got to make two free throw shots (he's number 15):

Speaking of Daniel he has been loving his weight set that he got for Christmas.  He likes to show us his developing arm muscles.  He also has been asking for weight lifting gloves so he won't get blisters on his hands.  Aaron picked him up some gloves and surprised him after running to the store for various things.  Daniel was pretty stoked:

 Daniel had his one month follow up appointment for his OIT (oral immunotherapy treatment).  We discussed his reaction to pistachios and they also did a lung function test.  In comparing results his lung function has dropped 10% in the last 5 months which isn't very good.  However, Daniel is horrible about remembering to use his preventative inhaler for his asthma.  Those results showed him how important it is to stay on top of using his preventative inhaler.  To see what else is going on and why his is reacting to pistachios the doctor said Daniel needed to get some blood work done.  After hearing that Daniel really flipped out in the office.  It was pretty bad.  I understand he HATES getting blood drawn, but he was pretty upset about it.  It was bad enough the doctor didn't make him get it done in the office, but just gave me the lab slip to take to the lab when Daniel calmed down.  Ugh!!  I am so not looking forward to taking him.  I will try and make it a 'lab' party since Matthew has to get his blood drawn and hate it almost just as much, too.  Wish me luck because I have a feeling I will need it!!  On a good note though, our next appointment is in two months and he will get to do an oral challenge of sunflower to see if he can actually eat it and not react. I am excited for that!!  If that goes well we will just have to worry about pistachios until they figure out what they want to do about that. Wahoo!

Poor Sophie had no idea what Daniel was doing to her picture....but in Daniel's defense she can stink quite badly sometimes if she eats the wrong type of food...

Matthew is Sophie's official dog walker.  He is really good at making sure she gets at least one walk in a day.  He usually tries to recruit people to go along with him and Sophie, too.  I went with him and he made sure I was decked out in safety gear since it was dark outside.  Sophie had her reflective leash and blinking collar on, Matthew had his headlamp and reflective vest on and I had a reflective vest on.  Safety first, right?!  He's a sweet kid.
